Community Led Total Sanitation (CLTS)
CLTS is essentially an approach, with a dynamic and evolving set of participatory tools and techniques designed to trigger communities into analysis and action to eliminate the practice of open defecation. CLTS looks at sanitation primarily as a community, and not merely an individual household issue, a matter of social norm and not only of construction of a physical facility. CLTS works on collective behavior change communication approaches, as embodied in participatory methodologies (PM), and their transformative power and potential in inducing and sustaining social change.
Knowledge Links is one of the early pioneers of community led total sanitation (CLTS) approach in India. KL carries extensive experience of working on scale to develop human and institutional capacities to create ODF communities on scale in rural and urban areas, using the CLTS approach both in India and outside.
Water and sanitation hygiene (WASH)
WASH is the primary domain expertise of Knowledge Links. Specific areas of specialization include: designing, planning and managing community led interventions in the sector; carrying out sector and diagnostic studies; undertaking reviews and evaluations; training and capacity development; designing and operationalizing monitoring and evaluation (M&E) and knowledge management systems.
Knowledge Links carries substantial experience of providing customized training and technical assistance services to state governments and non-government organisations for devising innovative approaches to plan, strategize and implement sustainable livelihoods programs with focus on women empowerment within the overall framework of Climate SMART development models based on gender equity and environmental justice.
Disaster risk reduction (DRR)
Knowledge Links has been involved in a country wide study for preparation of long term training and capacity building strategy for disaster risk reduction (DRR) and climate change adaptation (CCA) in India. The study was commissioned by National Institute of Disaster Management (NIDM), India and was undertaken by a consortium of Knowledge Links and Seeds Technical Services during 2012-14.
