What We Do
Knowledge Links (KL) provides a wide variety of development support services for a range of clients mainly governments and their multi-lateral and bi-lateral development partners. Most of our work is in the spirit of collaborative partnerships including rural and urban communities, local self-government, central and state governments, civil society organisations including NGOs and self-help groups, and multi-lateral and bilateral development aid agencies such as UNICEF, The World Bank and DFID.
KL also works with other international agencies such as Institute of Development Studies (IDS), Sussex and Huairou Commission and international NGOs like Action Aid, Plan International and Water Aid.
KL is a leading exponent and promoter of Community Led Total Sanitation (CLTS) as an approach to create ODF villages and cities in India and the Asian region with speed and on scale and with sustainable results on the ground.
Current focus of the organisation is on rapid action learning to inform mainstream development policy and practice in India and outside to achieve the goal of a clean and open defecation free (ODF) India.

Carries an experience of around 32 years in the development sector with more than 10 years of extensive experience in disaster management sector with a focus on community led approaches. He specialises in policy, programming and capacity development issues. Has been associated with research, evaluation, organizational development, training and technical assistance interventions related to innovative community-based development projects, particularly in rural water supply and sanitation and disaster management. His experience includes designing and operationalizing communication strategies, monitoring and evaluation systems and knowledge management processes within organizations and across development projects.
His areas of specialization include: designing and carrying out large scale organisational, project and program evaluations; operationalizing M&E systems with a focus on community monitoring and evaluation; creating learning nodes and networks for knowledge creation, processing and sharing; demand responsive approach to rural water supply and sanitation; participatory tools and techniques for community development; SARAR approach to community action planning; Community Led Total Sanitation (CLTS); integration of gender issues within policy making, planning and implementation frameworks.
Chief Policy, Program
Experience of over 31 years in management and monitoring of community-based development programs in rural areas including water and sanitation programs with a strong focus on hygiene and health issues. It includes grass-root level planning; organizing urban and rural communities, implementation, monitoring and supervision of development programs at various levels (block, district and state). Is a stalwart in the design and application of community-based processes, tools and techniques at the village level to achieve sustainable development outcomes; also specializes in training and capacity building on Community Led Total Sanitation (CLTS) approach for its application on the ground to create open defecation free and fully sanitized villages and towns.
Has conducted a series of 48 CLTS training of trainers workshops for more than 1200 participants from around 400 districts across all the states in India; these workshops were organized by Knowledge Links on behalf of the Key Resource Center (KRC) at Uttarakhand Academy of Administration, and were financially supported by Government of India in the International Year of Sanitation.
As one of the team members was part of a country wide study of Government of India’s Total Sanitation Campaign. The only study of its kind so far on Government of India’s national reform initiative in the rural sanitation sector was commissioned by WaterAid India and was carried out by Knowledge Links in 5 sample states of Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Haryana, Karnataka, and Tripura in 2008.
Is also one of the key professionals in a multi-country (India, Indonesia, and Bangladesh) research project on Community Led Total Sanitation (CLTS). The research project is funded by DFID and is being carried out by Institute of Development Studies, Sussex, UK.
Devi Prasad Mishra
He heads the media at Knowledge Links is a filmmaker of international repute. His documentary The Female Nude got the national award and his short film Satat was included in the Cannes Short Film Corner. He was associated with prestigious BBC project Bharatnaamaa. He has made two literary documentaries on great Hindi poet Mahadevi Varma and legendary Urdu poet Nazeer Akbarabaadi. He has recently completed one fictional film on an Adivasi boy. He has also made a full-length to-be-released documentary of great human concern about a woman’s struggle against the social prejudices.
D Satya Suya
Satya is a development practitioner with over 20 years working experience. She has held senior long-term and short-term positions as programme director, resource person, team leader, manager and consultant for various donors such as PLAN International, DFID, USAID. Her professional experience and technical background include rural livelihoods, women empowerment, child development and community resilience and rural water & sanitation development. She has experience of working with a wide range of stakeholders including government, NGOs, international agencies, corporate organisations and vulnerable and marginalized communities across several states in India.
Her area of specialisation program design and management in a partnership mode; institutional and community development; capacity building support to community-based, demand responsive and participatory development programmes/projects, Monitoring and Evaluation, designed training modules in areas of mother and child health, family planning. Apart from this she a Master Trainer in Menstrual Health and Management (MHM) and Teach Meditation and de-stressing techniques through the Happiness Program, a package designed by the Art of Living.
Senior Vice- President, Chief CLTS Trainer & Mentor
Anupma carries 14 years experience in social and human development and community based projects, particularly in the rural water and sanitation sector at the State, District and Village levels with a focus on innovative communication strategies for collective behaviour change. She is a highly experienced and skilled CLTS trainer and facilitator: has conducted more than 80 CLTS training of trainer’s workshops training around 3000 people across different states in India and Cambodia in CLTS triggering and facilitation skills.
Her specialisation in the use of participatory methodologies including PRA, PLA and CLTS. And has successfully used innovative development communication in the context of community-based and demand responsive activities, including a vast repertoire of participatory tools and techniques for community capacity building. Carries substantial experience of facilitating institutional mechanisms and monitoring systems for community-based projects.
As a lead trainer was engaged in conducting a series of 48 CLTS training of trainers’ workshops for 1222 participants from 611 districts across all the States in India. These trainings were organised by the Key Resource Centre (KRC) at Uttarakhand Academy of Administration (UAA) and financially supported by the Government of India. As a Lead Trainer, also conducted CLTS training in 2 Districts in Gujarat, 1 District in Assam, and 3 Districts of Uttar Pradesh and in 1 workshop at the State level in Andhra Pradesh.
Subir Kumar Pradhan
He is a specialist in Participatory Development in the rural and social sector. He has worked with International, National NGOs at the senior management level and collaborated with various international funding agencies in India. He has facilitated international, national and regional level policy workshops and represented organisations at various professional forums in India and abroad.
He has extensive experience in the areas of program planning and implementation, participatory research, livelihoods programs, women empowerment, monitoring and evaluations, partnership management, community-based organizations and institutional capacity building through the implementation of several bilateral and multilateral projects. He was a National Trainer and organised several training and workshops on participatory methodology and approaches, experiential learning cycle and participatory training methodology.
He has been instrumental in developing various participatory tools and techniques in the context of social sectors including agriculture and particularly in animal welfare. He has several publications of research papers and articles in national and international journals.
Godhan S. Bisht
Godhan S. Bisht carries around 22 years of experience in dealing with overall administrative task. He heads the office administration with excellent managerial and communication skills and he has handled numerous projects and programs pan India. He has successfully coordinated and organized many training programs and meeting. With his excellent interpersonal skills, project coordination experience, and the ability to work well with all levels of internal management and other field staffs, has able to provide arrange all travel and accommodation.

Fahd is a development practitioner with over 7 years working experience in Research, Evaluation, Program Management and Large scale program implementation in partnership with government, non-government, and corporate organizations. He has worked extensively at the community, district, and national level across twelve states of India. He has expertise in Livelihoods, Health, Sanitation and Poverty Alleviation in the cross-cutting themes of gender, inclusion & convergence. Carries experiential understanding of the development issues from various levels, including policy, program management, and field implementation, with experiences in working with Grassroots organizations, NGOs, Government, Multilateral Institutions and in the private sector. Fahd holds his MA Development Studies from the Institute of Development Studies (IDS), University of Sussex.

A commerce postgraduate from Kumaon University, after having five years successful inning in corporate banking, he set up in the social segment to realize his childhood dream of giving back to the society was initially focusing on research and strategy planning. Realizing the great need of developmental work at the grassroots level, he took up interventions with like-minded peoples and worked with key responsibilities like baseline surveys, community mobilizations, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of the programmes especially in Livelihoods, Health, and women empowerment, child education sponsored by Government agencies and other donors across pan India. C M Pandey
Sr. Vice President
He has worked with the Government of Uttar Pradesh for over 30 years in the Department of Panchayati Raj, the department which has been implementing the national sanitation program in the state since its inception. During his years in the government, he specialised in participatory approaches to community development and empowerment and emerged as a fine trainer and was a visiting faculty and trainer in UP Academy of Administration and State Institute of Rural Development (SIRD) both of which are the best suited institutes to be developed as CLTS training hubs in the state of Uttar Pradesh out of around five training institutes expected to be developed as per the TOR of the proposed assignment under consideration.
After his stint with the government, Pandey joined Knowledge Links and was trained as a master trainer in the community led approaches to sanitation, particularly CLTS. He has organized a number of one day and five days training of trainers (TOT) programs on CLTS across the states of Bihar, Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, Punjab, West Bengal and Gujarat.
His major skill as a trainer lies in his ability to inspire the participants to work towards creating ODF communities with a missionary zeal and commitment and with an informed understanding about safe technology options.
Ajay Kumar Singh
He has around 15 years of experience in the field of accounting, auditing, financial management and administration besides procurement and delivery of services from and to venders.
The projects on which he has worked include consultancy assignments completed by Knowledge Links for a range of clients that includes the World Bank, UNICEF, UNDP, National Institute of Disaster Management, NDMA-India, SAARC Disaster Management Centre (Gender Studies), Government of Cambodia, Government of Indonesia, Government of Afganistan, Government of Srilanka, IDS Sussex (UK) and leading international NGOs like PLAN International Cambodia, Plan International Indonesia, Practical Action Srilanka.
He has 5 years of experience of CLTS approach in rural as well as urban context. He has conducted series of training to expand the CTLS resource and forming teams consisting of Natural Leaders for proper implementation. He has worked in the states of Bihar, Punjab and West Bengal.
